Masonry Calculators

Brick and block walls are a counting game — units per square foot, plus mortar, plus cuts around openings. These calculators estimate brick and concrete block (CMU) quantities from your wall dimensions, with standard mortar-joint assumptions stated up front. Use them to price a garden wall, plan a shed foundation, or sanity-check a mason's material list.

Masonry FAQs

About 7 standard modular bricks per square foot with 3/8-inch mortar joints — an industry rule of thumb. The brick calculator applies this rate to your wall area and states the assumption so you can adjust it.

A standard 8×8×16-inch block covers about 1.125 blocks per square foot of wall. Block walls go up faster but use more mortar per unit, and both need extra units for cuts around doors and windows.
