Etsy Fee Calculator

This Etsy fee calculator breaks down every fee on a single sale using Etsy’s published US fee schedule: the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee, the 3% + $0.25 Etsy Payments processing fee, and optional Offsite Ads at 15% or 12%. Enter your item price and the shipping the buyer pays, and you get the total fee bite, what lands in your account, and your effective fee rate. It is the fastest way to check whether a price still works after Etsy takes its cut.

The price the buyer pays for the item itself.

Etsy charges the transaction and processing fees on buyer-paid shipping too.

Offsite Ads fees apply only to orders attributed to Etsy’s external ads.

How it was calculated

  1. Buyer total: $40.00 + $5.00 shipping = $45.00.
  2. Transaction fee: 6.5% × $45.00 = $2.93. Processing: 3% × $45.00 + $0.25 = $1.60.
  3. Plus $0.20 listing fee = $4.73 total fees.

How it works

Total fees = $0.20 listing + 6.5% × (item price + buyer shipping) + (3% × buyer total + $0.25) + Offsite Ads.

The transaction and processing fees both apply to the shipping amount the buyer pays, not just the item price — free-shipping offers do not dodge this.

Offsite Ads is 15% of the order total for shops under $10,000 in trailing-12-month revenue, or 12% once you cross $10,000 (then it is mandatory), capped at $100 per order.

Your effective rate is total fees divided by the buyer total — without ads it lands near 9.5% + $0.45 per sale.

Worked examples

$40 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping, no ads

Buyer total = $45. Transaction fee = 6.5% × $45 = $2.93. Processing = 3% × $45 + $0.25 = $1.60. Add the $0.20 listing fee for $4.73 total. You receive $40.28, an effective rate of 10.5%.

$100 item, free shipping, 12% Offsite Ads

Buyer total = $100. Transaction fee = $6.50, processing = $3.25, listing = $0.20, Offsite Ads = 12% × $100 = $12.00. Total fees = $21.95 and you receive $78.05 — ads nearly double the fee bite on this order.

How to measure

  • Use the price the buyer actually pays — if you run a sale, enter the discounted price, since fees apply to the final checkout total.
  • Enter the shipping amount shown at checkout, not what the label costs you; Etsy’s percentage fees apply to the buyer-paid figure.
  • Check your Offsite Ads status under Shop Manager → Marketing; under-$10k shops can opt out, over-$10k shops cannot.
  • For multi-quantity orders, remember each quantity renewal re-charges the $0.20 listing fee — model the per-unit fee accordingly.
  • If you sell in another currency, pull the 2.5% currency conversion fee into your math separately — this calculator uses US Etsy Payments rates.

Assumptions & limitations

Frequently asked questions

Roughly 9.5% + $0.45 per sale without ads: 6.5% transaction fee plus 3% + $0.25 payment processing, on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, plus a $0.20 listing fee. With Offsite Ads it jumps to about 21.5–24.5% + $0.45 on attributed orders. Your exact effective rate depends on price, shipping, and ads status — which is what this calculator computes.

Yes. Both the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee apply to the shipping amount the buyer pays. Only the flat $0.20 listing fee is unaffected by shipping. This is why “free shipping” (baking postage into the item price) does not reduce your fee total — but it can lift conversion.

If an Etsy external ad leads to a sale within 30 days, Etsy takes 15% of that order total when your shop made under $10,000 in the trailing 12 months (you may opt out), or 12% once you cross $10,000 (then enrollment is mandatory). The fee is capped at $100 per order. Select your tier in the calculator to see the impact.

Per listing, charged when you create or renew it — and each quantity sold in a multi-quantity listing triggers a $0.20 renewal. A listing that sells 10 units over its life incurs $2.00 in listing fees total, or $0.20 per unit. The calculator models one unit; divide accordingly for multi-quantity listings.

Yes. Payment processing rates vary by country, a 2.5% currency conversion fee applies when listing and payment currencies differ, and several countries add a regulatory operating fee (e.g. UK 0.48%, France 1.14%). This calculator uses US Etsy Payments rates — international sellers should adjust the processing line.
