Printify Profit Calculator
This Printify profit calculator shows what you keep on every print-on-demand sale. Enter your retail price, the Printify base product cost (product + print), Printify’s shipping to the customer, and where you sell — your own site, Etsy, Amazon, or eBay. Printify itself charges no commission, so profit is retail minus base cost, shipping, and the marketplace’s October 2026 fees where applicable. Use it to price products and to compare selling the same design across channels.

How it was calculated
- Costs: $12.50 base + $4.50 shipping + $0.00 marketplace = $17.00.
- Profit: $29.99 − $17.00 = $12.99 (43.3% margin).
How it works
Profit = retail price − Printify base cost − Printify shipping − marketplace fee (if any).
Printify charges no commission or per-sale fee — its margin is built into the base product cost, which varies by provider and always stays a user input.
Marketplace fees use October 2026 rates: Etsy ≈ 9.5% + $0.45, Amazon 15% referral, eBay 13.6% + $0.40 (payment processing included).
Margin = profit ÷ retail × 100. POD margins under 25% leave almost no room for ads or returns.
Worked examples
$29.99 tee sold on Etsy
Base $12.50 + shipping $4.50 + Etsy fees (6.5% + 3% + $0.45 = $3.30) = $20.30 costs. Profit = $29.99 − $20.30 = $9.69 per sale, a 32.3% margin.
$34.99 hoodie sold on Amazon
Base $14.00 + shipping $5.50 + Amazon 15% referral ($5.25) = $24.75 costs. Profit = $34.99 − $24.75 = $10.24 (29.3% margin).
How to measure
- Pull the exact base cost for your chosen print provider — Printify lists several per product and they differ by dollars.
- Use the real shipping to your main customer country; Printify’s US vs EU rates are not interchangeable.
- Price the design, not just the blank: proven designs support higher retail and therefore higher dollar profit.
- Compare providers per product — the cheapest base cost with acceptable quality wins, not the cheapest headline.
- Re-check base costs before scaling ads; providers adjust pricing and it flows straight to margin.
Assumptions & limitations
Planning estimate
- Fee rates as published October 2026 — verify current rates before pricing decisions.
- Printify base costs vary by product and provider and are never estimated here — always enter your actual figures.
- Marketplace fees are simplified to the headline rates (Etsy without Offsite Ads; Amazon 15% typical referral).
- Design time, store subscriptions, and advertising are not included.
- Results are a planning estimate only, not tax or financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
Typically $8–$15 per sale on apparel at normal retail prices: a $29.99 tee with a $12.50 base and $4.50 shipping leaves about $12.99 before marketplace fees, or ~$9.69 after Etsy’s cut. Profit scales with retail price far more than with volume, so pricing and design quality matter more than order count.
No commission and no per-sale fee — Printify’s business model is margin on the base product cost plus optional premium subscriptions. Your per-sale costs are exactly the base product cost and shipping you see in the provider catalog, plus whatever marketplace you sell through charges.
Your own site keeps ~$3+ more per $30 sale (no marketplace fee), but you pay for traffic yourself. Etsy brings built-in buyer intent at ~9.5% + $0.45 per sale. Run this calculator both ways: if your customer acquisition cost on your own site is under the marketplace fee, direct wins.
The usual culprits: using the wrong provider’s base cost (they vary widely), forgetting shipping, or ignoring the marketplace fee. A $12.50 base becomes $20.30 in true costs on Etsy after $4.50 shipping and $3.30 in fees — enter all three lines and the real margin appears.
