Amazon Profit Calculator

This Amazon profit calculator answers the only question that matters for FBA sellers: what do you keep per unit? It applies the full October 2026 FBA fee stack — category referral fee, size-tier fulfillment fee, 3.5% fuel surcharge, storage estimate and plan fee — then subtracts your product cost and inbound shipping to Amazon. The result is true net profit per unit and margin, so you can compare products, test price points, and spot listings that look profitable but are not.

How it was calculated

  1. Amazon fees: $4.50 referral + $5.40 fulfillment + $0.19 fuel + $0.78 storage + $0.00 plan = $10.87.
  2. Your costs: $8.00 product + $1.20 inbound = $9.20.
  3. Profit: $29.99 − $20.07 = $9.92 (33.1% margin).

How it works

Net profit = sale price − (referral + fulfillment + 3.5% fuel surcharge + storage + plan fee) − product cost − inbound shipping.

Referral = category rate × sale price: 8% electronics, 15% most categories, 17% clothing, 20% jewelry.

Margin = net profit ÷ sale price × 100. Experienced FBA sellers usually want 25–35%+ margin to absorb returns, ads, and price wars.

Inbound shipping is the forgotten line — freight to the FC is a real per-unit cost that belongs in profit math, not in overhead.

Worked examples

$29.99 product with $8 landed cost

Fees: $4.50 referral + $5.40 fulfillment + $0.19 fuel + $0.78 storage = $10.87. Costs: $8.00 + $1.20 inbound = $9.20. Net profit = $29.99 − $20.07 = $9.92 per unit, a 33.1% margin.

$19.99 small product, tight math

Fees: $3.00 referral + $3.22 fulfillment + $0.11 fuel + $0.78 storage = $7.11. Costs: $5.00 + $0.80 = $5.80. Net profit = $19.99 − $12.91 = $7.08 (35.4% margin) — small products can work when the fulfillment tier is genuinely small.

How to measure

  • Use landed product cost: unit price + freight + duties + inspection, divided by good units received.
  • Measure inbound per unit from real shipments — small-parcel inbound can exceed $1.50/unit on heavy items.
  • Test margin at your likely promo price, not just list price; coupons and deals come out of profit.
  • Add a returns reserve mentally: categories with 8–12% return rates need several extra margin points.
  • Re-run before every inventory order — supplier quotes and freight rates move faster than Amazon fees.

Assumptions & limitations

Frequently asked questions

Aim for 25–35%+ net margin after all fees and landed costs. That cushion absorbs returns (which cost you the fulfillment fee both ways on many categories), PPC spend (often 8–15% of revenue for new listings), and inevitable price competition. Products under 15% margin rarely survive their first price war.

Yes — or as its own line, as this calculator does. Freight to the fulfillment center is a true per-unit cost, and on heavy or bulky products it can rival the product cost itself. Sellers who bury it in overhead consistently overestimate FBA profit by $1–3 per unit.

Amazon refunds the referral fee on returned items but generally keeps the fulfillment fee, and you may pay return processing. A 10% return rate effectively adds roughly a tenth of your fulfillment cost back onto every unit sold. High-return categories (apparel, shoes) need materially higher starting margins.

It depends on size, weight, and your shipping rates. FBA wins on Prime badge conversion and hands-off logistics; FBM wins when your own fulfillment is cheap (light items, negotiated carrier rates). Compare this calculator’s FBA profit against your FBM cost using the Amazon seller fee calculator for the referral-only side.
