Amazon FBA Calculator

This Amazon FBA calculator models the complete Fulfillment by Amazon fee stack from the October 2026 schedule: the category referral fee (8–20%), your size-tier fulfillment fee, the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on that fulfillment fee, a monthly storage estimate, and the selling-plan fee. Enter your price and tier fees from Seller Central and get the true per-unit FBA cost, your net proceeds, and the effective fee rate — the number that decides whether FBA beats FBM for your product.

How it was calculated

  1. Referral: 15% × $29.99 = $4.50.
  2. Fulfillment $5.40 + fuel surcharge 3.5% × $5.40 = $0.19.
  3. Total: $4.50 + $5.40 + $0.19 + $0.78 storage + $0.00 plan = $10.87.

How it works

Total FBA fees = referral % × (price + shipping) + fulfillment fee + 3.5% × fulfillment fee + storage per unit + plan fee.

The referral fee is charged on the shipping amount too, so “free shipping” offers still pay referral on the full price.

The fuel and logistics surcharge (added April 2026) is 3.5% of the fulfillment fee only — not of the referral fee or the price.

Storage is the most seasonal line: $0.78/cu ft January–September versus $2.40/cu ft October–December, so Q4 restocks carry triple the storage weight.

Worked examples

$29.99 standard product, 15% referral

Referral = 15% × $29.99 = $4.50. Fulfillment $5.40 + fuel surcharge $0.19 + storage $0.78 = $10.87 total on a Professional plan. Net proceeds = $19.12, an effective rate of 36.2% — typical for standard-size FBA.

$59.99 electronics in Q4, Individual plan

Referral = 8% × $59.99 = $4.80. Fulfillment $3.22 + fuel $0.11 + Q4 storage $2.40 + $0.99 plan fee = $11.52 total. Net proceeds = $48.47 (19.2% effective) — the 8% electronics referral keeps this efficient despite Q4 storage.

How to measure

  • Pull your exact fulfillment tier fee from Seller Central — the default $5.40 is only a 2-lb standard example.
  • Convert storage properly: multiply your unit’s cubic feet by $0.78 (or $2.40 in Q4), then by average months in stock.
  • Check your category’s referral rate before trusting the 15% default — apparel at 17% and jewelry at 20% change the math materially.
  • Remember the $39.99/mo Professional fee sits outside this per-unit math; divide it by monthly units for your true all-in cost.
  • During the Oct 15–Jan 14 holiday peak, fulfillment fees run higher — verify peak rates before Q4 pricing.

Assumptions & limitations

Frequently asked questions

For a typical standard-size product at 15% referral it lands around 30–35% of the sale price: referral + a $3–$8 fulfillment fee + 3.5% fuel surcharge on that fee + storage. On a $29.99 item with a $5.40 fulfillment fee, the stack is about $10.87. Small, light products in low-referral categories can get under 25%.

Since April 2026, Amazon adds a fuel and logistics surcharge of 3.5% of the FBA fulfillment fee in the US and Canada. On a $5.40 fulfillment fee that is $0.19 per unit. It applies only to the fulfillment fee — not to the referral fee, storage, or the item price.

Individual costs $0.99 per item sold with no monthly fee; Professional costs $39.99/month with no per-item fee. The crossover is about 40 units per month ($39.99 ÷ $0.99). Above that, Professional wins — and it unlocks Buy Box eligibility features and bulk tools that matter at volume.

Two ways: monthly storage triples from $0.78 to $2.40 per cubic foot October–December, and fulfillment fees carry a holiday peak surcharge from October 15 to January 14. A product that is comfortably profitable in July can go marginal in November on storage alone — model Q4 with Q4 inputs.
